Make it Your Thyme for Flowers!!

In 1999, after leaving a grueling business meeting with her boss in a large hotel in New Brunswick, Amy Pratico rounded the corner in the parking garage and instantly smelled the scent of flowers. A man was setting up a stand in three parking spaces and was busy putting out an array of spectacular roses. Amy grabbed her bosses arm and stated, “That’s what I want to be doing!” Her boss obviously thought Amy had lost it; after all she was working for a prestigious academic publishing company at the time.

It was there in that parking garage that Amy made up her mind, soon after gave her notice, and went to work for Bob’s Flowers in Peapack, NJ. It was a familiar place where she worked 12 years prior. Her intent was to buy the business, though that did not happen for a variety of reasons. A few months later, her neighbor and realtor had exciting news for her. There was a small established flower shop in Jamesburg, NJ that was for sale. Ms. Pratico didn’t waste any time. She bought the shop in 2000, renamed it Sweet William & Thyme Florist, tripled the business in three short years, moved into a larger building in 2006, and has been serving her community and the surrounding communities for over 21 years.

Sweet William &Thyme Florist caters not just to the Jamesburg area but the surrounding communities within a ten mile radius. “I owe a lot of my success to my dedicated and talented team of which I have been fortunate enough to have by my side,” stated Ms. Pratico. Even her 16 year old shop kitty, Midnight, earns her keep greeting the customers and keeping an eye on the shop after hours.
