If you are looking to add value to your home, consider an addition to add major value while also increasing square footage. It’s important to rec- ognize that some home renovations offer more of an impact on a home’s value than others.
If you can add square footage to a house, you always add value. But, if you are happy and like the home you’re in now and appreciate your neighbors but yearn for extra space to entertain company or relax, adding on makes sense as an option over packing up and moving.
Even if you have no plans to sell anytime soon, consider the resale value of your project. You might not always turn a profit on your home-expan- sion investment, but you should go into the job with realistic expectations about at least some kind of payback.
