As we get older, we often find ourselves asking, ‘What’s next?’ What is something that we would love to do, but we have not completed yet? How can we make the rest of our days worthwhile? There are endless possibilities of activities in the world for us to complete!

One way to live a fulfilled life is to give back to the community by volunteering. There are many ways to volunteer; you can mentor children, help a business with one of their projects, assist at a library or hospital, or help an animal shelter. Volunteer work takes plenty of time, and once the task is complete, volunteers feel accomplished and proud.

Another great way to make the most of your days is to give a physical activity a chance. There are plenty of sports in the world for us to try out and there is bound to be an activity that you will love. Do you love the water? Go fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, or surfing! Do you love nature? Make plans to hike every nature trail within a two hour radius of your home.

Do you have family or friends that you cherish and want to spend more time with? Are your grandchildren growing up right before your eyes? Try setting aside more time to be with loved ones. Make plans to get together as often as you can. Spending a lunch, or a dinner, with loved ones can help you reconnect and find happiness.

The beauty of aging is that as the days go on, we begin to realize what is truly important. The minor scratch on your hardwood floor is not something to get all worked up about; instead, focus your energy on your grandchildren, your children, your spouse, your pets, your favorite sports, your hobbies, or your volunteer work. Always remember that “God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.” (Voltaire).
