There is a spiritual law that is the foundation of just about every religion and spiritual path in our society. And that spiritual law is simply this: so as you give, so shall you receive. I came to know this simple, yet profound, spiritual law to a greater extent in the Spring of 2020, following my beloved mother’s passing into the Heavenly Worlds.
My mom, Janet Kemmerer Mabey, went Home to be with the Lord on the twenty-third of December 2019, at 9:30 in the evening. While I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that Mom
was now with the Lord, still, a certain deep sadness loomed throughout the chambers of my heart.
For days and days, then weeks and weeks, I experienced the single most profound writer’s block that I had ever encountered in my entire life. Living in Florida, even in January, wild birds abound in the branches and tree limbs of the many Live Oaks and Maples that fill people’s yards. It was in midst of January of 2020, that I poured my heart and soul into caring for the wild birds that flocked to the Live Oak on my front yard.

Oak on my old front yard.
I put out two bird feeders. And, broke the HOA Covenant by putting out four bird baths. Two was the limit, but I was living on the edge. I hid two of the bird baths in my back yard, within the tall hedges. I would get up early every morning, between 6:00 and 6:30 and read my Bible on my screened-in front porch. My two cats, Opie and Floyd, would perch upon the little wooden boxes that I had bought them and look out to the world.
The birds would flock to the two bird baths on the front lawn. And, also would chomp on the bird seed that flowed out from the two bird feeders that I had on the front lawn. One of which I had tied to a limb of my Live Oak. It was a most beautiful sight to behold. And, the air waves would be filled with the joyful songs of the abounding birds.
I would read some chapters of my Bible, then read from Thomas Wolfe’s novel, “Look Homeward, Angel.” It didn’t happen overnight. But looking back, I am pretty sure that it was in the middle of March of 2020, that I once again began writing. I wrote in the old-fashioned way of using pen and notebook.
The chirping and singing of the many birds that flourished upon my front yard, had warmed my heart center. While I still deeply mourned the passing of my beloved mother, the birds singing had touched my heart and a certain warmth began to flow through my veins. I had come home, to once again, find my true calling of putting words down on paper.
I am immensely grateful to God, for bringing to me the gift of the beautiful and glorious sound of a choir of birds singing. To bring some joy to my morning time of reading my Bible. That divine gift was a major contributor to my being able to melt away the very real writer’s block that I was enduring.
If I can share these words with you good friends, it is this. If you are walking in a valley of despair, of sadness, of a feeling of hopelessness, sincerely ask God to bring hope and joy and comfort into your heart center. It may or may not come in the avenue of finding joy and comfort in listening to the beautiful symphony of singing birds. But I can tell you with certainty, God will comfort your heart, if you simply ask for divine guidance. For God loves you, more than you will ever know.
