The Millstone Community Garden, located on the grounds of the United Presbyterian Church in Millstone, is alive again with the coming of spring. With a productive first year behind them, gardeners are beginning to get their plots ready for planting. Located at 211 Millstone Road, the garden is on the left-hand side of the church and is open to everyone, not just church members. You are also welcome whether you’re a Millstone resident or not. If you’re a first time gardener or a seasoned one, come and mingle with the other gardeners. Located in an ideal sunny location, the garden is completely surrounded by a deer fence. Water is also available on the premises. Plant whatever vegetables or flowers you want too. Even if you have little experience gardening, you can be paired up with an experienced gardener who will guide you along. The cost is $25.00 for the season. You get a 10 1/2 by 10 1/2 garden plot to plant in. There will also be three demonstration plots planted by the Master Gardeners of Monmouth County showing you different techniques of gardening such as mulching, using trellises, and the companion planting of different crops. There are also eight PAR (plant a row for the hungry) rows. Last year the garden yielded over 500 lbs of produce that went to the Freehold Open Door Food Pantry to help feed the needy. The master gardeners are on hand to answer any questions you might have. Go to www.millstonegarden.org for more information about the garden. You can also call Anne Haines at 732-299-7827 to reserve a spot. There are still a few plots open.
